Avery and Eric were such a joy to work with during our session at Sims Lake Park, and their little girl, Laelynn, was an absolute delight. The park, with its serene lake and lush greenery, provided a beautiful backdrop for capturing the warmth and love shared by this sweet family. Working with small children can sometimes be unpredictable and requires a bit of patience, but that’s all part of the fun. After a little time to settle in, Laelynn warmed up to the camera, treating us to some of the cutest expressions that had us all laughing.
One of the things I always encourage my families to do is to focus less on posing and more on simply interacting with their child. It’s in those unscripted moments—when parents and kids are playing, laughing, or sharing a quiet connection—that the most genuine and authentic photos emerge. My goal as a photographer is to capture these in-between moments, the ones that may seem small at the time but hold so much meaning when you look back on them.
While it’s great to get those perfect, postcard-worthy shots to share with family and friends, it’s often the candid images that resonate the most. These are the photos that capture Laelynn’s personality and spirit at this particular moment in time, the ones that Avery and Eric will come back to year after year as they watch her grow.
